• Performed plant specimen sampling for molecular testing from biosecurity greenhouse space.
• Followed SOPs and MSDSs and performed master mix, primer and sample preparation, and DNA/RNA extractions by manually and automated systems.
• Conducted molecular assays such as PCR, RT-PCR, qPCR, gel electrophoresis, and ELISA to detect and identify exotic plant pathogens. • Completed a complex research project investigating new sampling methods and comparing results of a new assay compared to existing assays for sensitivity, repeatability, and accuracy. • Designed, conducted, recorded, analyzed, and interpreted results of biological experiments.
• Developed, adapted, validated, and optimized diagnostic tests to allow for detection of established and emerging viruses of significant biosecurity risk and pooling of PEQ diagnostic standards. • Handled data in accurate and efficient ways to enable analysis and produce and presented visual presentations and scientific reports that convey results to key policy decision-makers in the department. • Responsible for preparing, coordinating, and processing research lab kits and test kits as required. • Demonstrated experience in pathology, molecular, and biosecurity contamination level 2 and 3 laboratories. • Conducted general laboratory maintenance followed GMPs and GLPs. • Contributed to weekly project updates and progress team meetings with directors, scientists, and researchers.
