Doctor of Philosophy - 3D Concrete Printing

A self driven, creative and practical problem solver, currently undertaking research regarding construction automation, with a focus on construction 3D Concrete Printing. My approach to engineering solutions is to make use of my practical experience and cross disciplinary hands on skills. My philosophy is that experimenting and getting your hands dirty allows for a greater sense of creativity and understanding beyond theoretical principals.

My Journey:

After graduating high school, I began working as a concreter before taking the leap into engineering studies. Which I found allowed me to appreciate and understand the practical side of construction, beyond a computer or textbook. 

Currently my PhD has provided me with research skills and specialised knowledge in construction automation, civil engineering and construction materials. I have also been fortunate enough to speak at national and international conferences, while publishing my research findings in scientific journals. 
 
I have also undertaken a role as an academic tutor, teaching undergraduate students structural design and analysis. Not only does this further consolidate my analytical and problem solving skills, it is rewarding and allows the ability to have direct and meaningful impact on students.

During 2018 I had the chance to work part time with John Holland as a Quality Engineer on the Melbourne Metro-Tunnel project, one of Victoria's largest infrastructure projects currently going on. 
My duties primarily included managing the quality assurance of structural and ground monitoring works throughout the project. 

My Drive: 

Using design thinking processes and being able to be innovative and have direct impact are my key values and drivers for fulfilment. I aspire to partake in as many opportunities as possible to develop myself with a wide array of experiences to reflect on and leverage.

Since joining Engineers Without Borders (EWB) in 2015 I have been able to tap into and develop these drivers. I have travelled to India, leveraging principles of human-centred design I developed fit for purpose engineering solutions for a rural village on the outskirts of Pune. I have also had the opportunity to run STEM workshops within rural and low socio economic schools throughout Victoria. Most recently I was able to leverage all my experiences into the project organisation team, as a team lead for the 2018 High School Innovation challenge.

Innovative design thinking has also seen me become involved in other activities such as the 2018 Paddl/COSBOA/Canon Innovation games, and the Design Factory Melbourne Innovation Boot Camp. 







My role in the MTEW is undertaking casual work as a Junior Engineer in the Quality Assurance team.
Roles include:
- Closing out, compiling and reviewing work lots
- Various quality control site inspections
- Managing the QA of structural and ground monitoring works throughout the MTEW project
- The the installation and commissioning of a groundwater extraction, treatment and recharge system
