Shared my experience of being a Youth Advocate and volunteering in Mozambique,  at the United Nations in New York and the LAMPA international film festival in Russia.  Participated in fundraising and awareness campaigns over a period of 18 months.

I would like to introduce myself; my name is Katura Halleday, I am 15 and define myself as a humanitarian and social justice advocate.  

I was ﬁnalist for Gold Coast Citizen of the Year 2018, the Women in Business Rising Star for 2018, nominee 7 News Young Achiever award, 5 time nominee for the International Stevie Awards, Australian representative for Golden Rule day, member of the Student Advisory Board and the subject of a new short ﬁlm by Jude Kalman.  

While I am is humbled by these awards and opportunities, I am acutely aware and grateful for the platform these opportunities have given me to have my voice heard.  

In 2018 I started a Social Enterprise, 8x8 to Educate, donating 100% of the profits to education in Mozambique.   I have three main income streams, a book that I illustrated called Rina’s Story, an annual Art Competition and personal and company Sponsorships.

I am passionate about two things in my life, art being one and the other the education of young women in developing countries.  By combining these two passions I have been able to unite a group of my peers, provide an opportunity for member of my school and wider community to enjoy art and help to continue the education of those less fortunate. I hope to provide through my experiences, an example to other students of the joy that can be found in a life that on some level involves service to others.

To date I have raised over $150,000 in goods or cash, I am responsible for all activities (solo operator)
