About Jessica
Fashion styling is a career that can lead to so many different work paths. Throughout the year studying full time at the Australian Institute of Creative Design, I have gained an extensive amount of knowledge in the following areas: Styling, Fashion Business, Makeup and Hair, Photography, Media Styling and Styling for Client. Below is a summary of the skills we learnt in each subject.
Styling Our main subject for this course was Styling which is where we learnt most of our theory work and base knowledge for being a stylist. We explored different genres of styling from Personal, Editorial, Commercial, Runway and Bridal. We also spent months researching various past and present fashion designers while also fitting in time to research fashion from different cultures.
Business The core subject of this course was our business class. Completing around 20 assignments throughout the year we started with making our first business plan, and finished with throwing a large fashion parade. We also learnt marketing and social media techniques, invoicing, financial planning, WHS, legal obligations and event organisation. Makeup/Hair As a component of the Diploma we were required to undertake makeup and hair classes for 17 days. We were supplied with our own kit and completed tests, and portfolio work. I was taught a wide variety of looks from Day looks, Evening looks and Bridal looks to Avant Garde. Photography For this subject we were taught all of the primary rules of photography, and undertook several of our own photoshoots to practise our skills. We then were taught how to edit our images using industry standards in photoshop. Media Styling The most diverse subject of the course, Media Styling included starting our own blogs, writing our own articles, conducting four photoshoots and learning how to put together the perfect flatlay. Styling for Client In this subject we learnt how to communicate with both personal and high profile clients. How to take clients on a Personal Shopping trip and how to do a Wardrobe Audit. We also conducted a fashion workshop working alongside retail stores in Westfield.
